Lee FACTORY CRIMP DIE .44 Special, .44 Magnum, .44 S&W Russian
[90863]

39.50 Euro
Reviews

Description

Factory ammunition is often more accurate and better able to withstand rough handling because the bullet is firmly crimped in place.
A firm crimp improves accuracy because pressure must build to a higher level before the bullet begins to move.
This higher start pressure insures a more uniform pressure curve and less velocity variation.
Even powder selection is less critical.

A carbide sizer in the Carbide Factory Crimp Die sizes the cartridge while it is being crimped so every round will positively chamber freely with factory like dependability.
The adjusting screw quickly and easily sets the desired amount of crimp.
It is impossible to buckle the case as with a conventional Bullet Seating Die.
Trim Length is not critical so this extra operation takes less time than it would if cases were trimmed and chamfered.

For revolver rounds a Roll Crimp is used.
A Taper Crimp is applied to auto-loader rounds.
The crimper cannot be misadjusted to make a case mouth too small to properly head-space.

A firm crimp is essential for dependable and accurate ammunition.
It eliminates the problems of poor ignition of slow burning reloading powders.

Instructions

The Lee Factory Crimp Die does not seat the bullet. The bullet should be seated with your regular bullet seating die.
If the bullet has a crimp groove it is usually best to seat the bullet so most of the groove is inside the case mouth.

● Screw the Lee Carbide Factory Crimp Die until it just touches the shell holder and back out the adjusting screw. With the loaded round in the die turn the adjusting screw in until you can feel it just touch the case mouth. Then move the cartridge out of the die slightly and screw the adjusting screw in ½ turn for a light crimp and one full turn for a heavy crimp. You can adjust for even greater crimp and never have to worry about buckling the case as with conventional crimpers.
It is usually best to start with a light crimp as you can readjust and crimp again to suit your needs.

● The case is sized as it enters the die and again as it is pulled out of the die. This assures you every case will freely chamber in any standard gun.
Do not expect the carbide sizer to touch every case. It is a fail safe tool for the occasional bad round that could ruin your day.

● Bullets do not need a crimp groove as the Lee Factory Crimp Die will form one while crimping.
However it requires a harder push on the press lever to form the crimp.

● Finger tighten the lock ring.
This locks to both the die and press and it will never move.

● When removing the die always loosen by the lock ring.
This insures the lock ring will maintain its setting for future use.

● Trim length is not critical.
However be certain that your cases are no longer than specification as a case excessively long will pinch the bullet in the end of your gun's chamber and cause dangerous pressures.
Cases trimmed excessively short cannot be crimped.
